Because of today’s complex building material formulations, it’s nearly impossible to determine the microscopic nature of each surface before cleaning. Many types of surfaces, especially glass block employ coatings, thin films, and other non-glass elements to change the behavior of the glass in order to enhance its function as a building material. Glass does have a factory determined “lifetime” which is usually ten years. Stone lifetimes vary depending upon the manufacturer’s warranty. These complex glass compositions make cleaning and restoration difficult because of their unpredictable reaction to cleaning chemicals, blasting, and polishing techniques. Glass cleaning and stone cleaning often reveals pre-existing surface and coating damage, as well etching caused by sun damage, calcium weathering, previous cleaners, and scratches due to previous wear. This etching can be evident by a de-glazing, white haze, faint droplet rings, and discoloration which cannot always be removed with hard water removal blasting, polishing, or other cleaning techniques. When hard water staining does occur, blasting is often times the most effective means of removing these stains from pool tile. Blasting methods remove the surface build up of hard water, calcium, lime scale, and other minerals by breaking the surface attraction between the minerals and the surface. Blasting combines a pressure washer, mixing valve, and blast media that interact microscopically with the surface. Topical coatings and sensitive glass and stone compositions differ from traditional building materials both chemically and in hardness, resulting in varying degrees of effectiveness during blasting and restoration. The operator frequently adjusts the output pressure of the pressure washer and the type of media in order to achieve the desired result. *I ACKNOWLEDGE Blasting is a restoration technique intended to avoid pool tile replacement. It is accepted and understood by ALL parties that pressure washers, mixing valves, hoses, and blast medias are standard tools and techniques for pool tile restoration and can safely remove limited amounts of hard water and mineral staining from glass. Blasting may not remove pre-existing glass damage due to previously used chemicals, cleaning, or aging. Due to the unpredictable nature of today’s sensitive complex glass, light but visible swirl marks may be evident on some types of glass. Similarly, due to the unpredictable nature of today’s sensitive complex stone, light but visible de-glazing, pitting, and grout removal may be evident in some types of stone. In an attempt to avoid glass replacement and stone replacement and recover the asset value of the glass and stone, blasting techniques will be employed and McCools Pools & Home Management LLC will not be liable for any de-glazing, pitting, swirl marks, scratches, or etching, whether discovered as a pre-existing condition or otherwise. *I ACKNOWLEDGEBY CHECKING THE PARAGRAPHS ABOVE AND SIGNING BELOW YOU ARE ACKNOWLEDGING THAT YOU HAVE READ AND UNDERSTOOD THE RISKS, TERMS, CONDITIONS, AND OTHER INFORMATION DISCLOSED THAT THE ABOVE LISTED.
